The Basset Hound is easily recognized by its distinctive appearance. The breed is known for its long body, large paws, droopy eyes and, of course, the trademark long, flowing ears. The coat of the Basset Hound is short with patches of black, brown, tan and white. The loose-fitting skin often gives way to folds and wrinkles. The Basset has a calm and even disposition. Their subdued temperament, coupled with their inclination for inactivity, also gives the breed the reputation for being stubborn.
